Sep. 5th, 2025 11:21 amOne of my favorite things about being here instead of Paramus is the considerably lower hostility levels. I still need to tell the story about why I started carrying a baseball bat in Rex, but that is for a different day. Instead, I want to mention the myriad of positive conversations I have had, started by strangers since we have been here. About how when I wear one of my myriad of banned book shirts, I always get at least one happy person telling me they love my shirt. How our neighbors have been so kind and helpful. Standing in line for a Brooks BBQ event was sheer joy for how friendly everyone waiting was. Being back in New York state has made me happy. I love having hills and real weather again.
Next week, the company we have been using for bed clean up and mulching is coming to dig a new raised bed. I have three tree form butterfly bushes waiting to go in along with a dozen colors of bearded irises. There are eventually going to be 190 tulip bulbs for the front bed. There will be an outdoor bed section being put in for gardening in the spring. The side of the house will eventually be a project for wilding. I want to make a happy pollinator place. And yes, I know the arguments against butterfly bushes but they will be such a small piece of what I am planting for the pollinators that a little “fast food” for them should not be a problem.
Mostly, I just feel like after waiting 30 years to afford our house, that this place is so right for us.

Date: 2025-09-12 04:31 pm (UTC)I have thought about buying a banned books type tshirt but since we still mask in stores like Walmart and Kroger, that would maybe be more than the locals could handle when seeing me and I'm just not built for confrontation in this age of TikTok.
I'm really glad the new house and area is such a good fit for you, it sounds lovely!
