Nov. 14th, 2023 10:02 amSomething a bit unexpected happened yesterday and it requires a wee bit o' backstory.
In July, on my birthday no less, we got what some have been calling the Golden Ticket; an email saying we had met our obligation on student loans and the rest of the debt was being discharged. Given we have paid the loan back many times over, I won't listen to the "not fair" of it all because frankly, it wasn't fair how many times payments I made counted as "0" because we were a little behind and payments didn't count until we caught up again. One month behind and take 5 months of adding extra payment until you catch up? That turned out to literally be 6 payments that didn't count toward principal. Somehow they neglected to ever tell us this.
There's also a rant about being forced from .5 percent loans to 7.5% loans with consolidation but you don't need to read that.:)
Anyway...we were happy to get rid of the 27 year loan that we thought would never go away. Sunday night Pete was checking informed delivery and saw we were supposed to get something for the treasury. When he showed me, we both wondered "could it be" and waiting for mail yesterday was speculation and cursing Cecilia for being even slower than usual. I was busy when the mail arrived, but I could hear Pete and the laugh when he opened the envelope told me it was good. 51 times we paid them when we didn't need to. So my stress about burning through some of our savings while Pete was unemployed has been alleviated.
No interest on it of course.::shrug:: Not being ungrateful though and I am super happy to be done with that particular albatross.
Time to run. Tons to do today!
