First, cranky old lady rant out of the way.... So I've been online since high school, when it was just BBS sites and really big long distance phone bills.  When we moved to Potsdam and Pete went back to Clarkson, the web was just a footnote in a book he was reading. Yahoo was just a hot list by a couple of guys. Pete actually wrote the very first HTML quick guide. In all that time, banning or blocking? It was something that you did to people that were horrible or stalking you. It's not for KEEPING SYMMETRY AND NEATNESS TO A FRIENDS LIST. Seriously? Banning for something like that is really rude and goes against every rule of netiquette I know. Plus, how anal do you have to be to keep friends and friends of the same? Anyway, that's my rant there.

I finished the step stool yesterday. Two passes of stain and three passes of poly. I'm super pleased with how it turned out, though as I said to Pete, it would have been a lot easier had we a good space for doing such work in. The garage, despite the fact that Pete frequently sweeps it, is still dustier than I'd like for finishing furniture. I'll post a pic later. I wish it was a little redder, as the can represented but the color is still very much to my liking.

In comparison to the way most weekdays have been for me, this one seems like it will be pretty light. I'm certain I'll find a way to change that.:)

I remember hot lists! Search engines? What were those? :D

And how the hell do you have symmetry on a friends list anyway? I really don't understand what you mean. Do you mean unfriending someone because they unfriended you? Do you mean when people trim their lists of folks they don't really deal with? I honestly can't figure out what you're ranting about.

Here, have some tea. ;)

Hehe. Yeah, but search engines weren't needed because the web had an end.:) There were only so many places you could go. Which is why I feel I can scoff at places that claim they were on the web in '95 or earlier. There were some like VTB, but not many.

Ok, so drama girl adds me. Against my better judgment I add back. She decides that she wants to drop me. Rather than say anything she drops and bans me. I go to say goodbye and find the ban. Write her a quick note saying goodbye and wishing her luck... she tells me that she likes to keep her list "even" and bans people she drops so that it will be so. I get irked... not because I care about her(she was driving me nuts and it was only a matter of time before I couldn't take it) but for one she called me "sweetie" and two, how freakin' rude is it to ban someone for that?

Honestly, it's a small annoyance in the grand scheme of thing but it reminds me why I don't usually add twenty-somethings back. Kids!;)

Tea good. Thank you, 'Sid.

It is kind of weird. I mean, I can see the case if you're trying to avoid someone completely because you Just Don't Want To Deal With Them. I've done that. But to do it to everyone? To keep the lists "even"? OK, that's weird.

I started on the net in '96. Even then there wasn't much organization other than hotlists. Hell, who even uses the word "hotlist" anymore? LOL

Of course it's good tea! I discovered Tevana at the mall last year. :D

Old people use the term. ::cries::

Oh, we just got a Teavana here. I find some of their stuff too fruity, but they do have some I like. They also have a set of cups that I would love to have, except I already have too many tea things.:)

We get a lot of our tea directly from Japan or China since Pete has been traveling. I developed a taste for lung ching, but I don't dare buy it here since I don't have anyone "in the know" to ask about getting a good quality one.

Straight from the orient...now, you're just bragging. :P

I like Teavana's Himalaya Majestic. It's the best black tea I've ever had. Which isn't saying much.

Speaking of old, I remember when Aaron was a baby! Oh, the days of #ratmm. ;)

Eh... I like the tea from there for certain, but I don't like that particular trip since he's usually gone for nearly 2 weeks. Tea is just the way to keep me from grumping about it too much.

Now I'll have to give the black tea a try when I'm in next.

15! He's just turned 15! And he's taller than me! And he eats every meal like it will be the last! And I can't stop using exclamation points!

I forget where you live. Do you have a Chinatown district? Or, if you live in a small community, do you have a decent chinese restaurant owned by Chinese? Or an Asian market?

It's been my experience when dealing with food and beverages of a different culture that these people are *delighted* to educate you and your palate.

Barring that, I bet there's a tea community here on LJ that might be able to guide you.

We're can easily take a train into NYC and hit Chinatown. A good friend of Pete from Hong Kong told him that if we buy tea there, we had best have someone Chinese to help. Part of the problem also lies in the fact that the best lung ching simply isn't exported.

There is nothing old lady about that particular outrage. It's totally ridiculous and unnecessary to do something like that and makes no sense at all to me.

Now, talking about hotlists on the other hand... :P
