It has been a very long time since I added to my stash, since I haven't stitched in so long. During my hiatus, my go to company ended up belonging to a private equity group. As so often happens, they have been ruined in the process. On one hand, I find this sad, on the other I have discovered that there are some really amazing companies elsewhere that still make great pieces. Thus began what became the Eastern Bloc invasion of my stitching stash. In part, it is retail therapy after dad. Pete does well in work and a recent raise made for my going a little bonkers...I doubled the stash. It was enabled by a spouse who has been trying to keep me cheerful in the family aftermath. I regret nothing. I have an epic selection and packages from other places have been a good distraction for me.

New piece is about a quarter done. There is a new lamp to help that. The extra time at night has made for a huge bump in progress. Being busy in that way also keeps me from reading the news too much.

Apologies for the glare...quick shot. Super pleased with the framing job.

I have the beginning elements to a good shot, but don't know if I have the time to pull it all together before I lose this light.

Voting for the person you want to is fine in my book. Trying to say that the opposite side has no rights to complain? Why make the comment and refuse to have discourse. You could say nothing and keep your passive aggressive "too damn bad" to yourself.

Fully aware I'm being passive aggressive myself here. Just not in the mood for childish/dickish things like that when I have terrified friends worried about their future.

This year has brought a shortage in vanilla and as such, prices could potentially quadruple in the coming months. Inveterate and often large scale baker that I am, I have been sure to bolster my supply. Admittedly, I also rather enjoy playing with making my own extracts, so I want to be certain I can keep experimenting without breaking the bank.

Last week, I filtered about 24oz of Tahitian vanilla and slightly more of the Madagascar. I found that once I had retrieved the beans and filtered out the caviar, the resulting yield gave me nearly 7 pounds of vanilla sugar. As it turns out, it also puts a person in a great mood to putter with such things for a morning.:) The bourbon vanilla of this round is not yet ready to be filtered, but that is no surprise given it usually needs about three times as long to be ready.

This is my current vanilla, both finished and in process extracts.

Mother Nature seems to be bit late on the April Fools joke.

Since I don't do candy, Pete got me flowers for Easter; both indoor and outdoor. The outdoor flowers have rapidly become a popular thing with the cats. I think they feel like they are hiding as they look out much in the same way that they feel they are invisible if they hold utterly still. Here's Maia, in a shot Pete dubbed Maia's Little Garden.

Somehow, it is already Easter bread time again with two batches this year, split into 12 per. With Spring cookies, pi day graham crackers and the Easter bread in addition to everyday baking, I have opened what seems like countless bags of flour this month. This may be why I buy 40 pounds at a time....

Quick shot of this year's cookies. Still haven't had time to write anything of substance.

Given the state of the things nowadays, I *do* need a video of Nick Offerman sitting next to a fire drinking scotch, saying absolutely nothing and staring at the camera for 45 minutes. I really do.

I am currently without a copy of Lightroom that will work with this camera, but I'm happy enough with the test shots to not really care at the moment. This thing shoots incredibly fast and the rendering is *amazing*. Last night, I shot in the dark with it and got this:

What makes this so amazing is that I myself could not see the menu in the dark. In fact, the only light in the parking lot at the time was from the truck. I shot this at 1600 and there is no real noise. I guess given it's an 8 year difference between this and my last Nikon, I shouldn't be so surprised but this camera really is blowing me away. In fact, for a little while, I even forgot to miss my Leica.

I really am looking forward to getting out with my new toy. I'm going to take some freakin awesome pictures with it.

Turns out the gift for the 24th anniversary (at least in our house) is a full frame camera.

I have been busy. So *very* busy. Too busy for a real entry at the moment, but enough time to show off what will be the first addition to the holiday cookie line up in at least a decade. Ladies and gentlemen, peppermint white chocolate biscotti...

They pretty well rock, is the feedback I'm getting.:)

P.S. Still without a real camera. It's becoming a problem.
